Xi'an Jiaotong University inaugurates AIMat

On April 8, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) celebrated the launch of Advanced Information Materials (AIMat), an English-language academic journal, at its Xingqing Campus. This event marked the 130th anniversary of XJTU’s founding and the 70th anniversary of its relocation to Xi’an.

The ceremony attracted over 400 esteemed guests, including Nobel laureate Professor Andre K. Geim; Professor Zhang Liqun, president of XJTU and founding editor-in-chief of AIMat; and academicians Huang Wei and Sun Jun. Key figures from the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, AIMat editorial board members, and student representatives also attended.

President Zhang emphasized the importance of information materials as a bridge between information science and materials engineering, crucial for China’s technological self-reliance. AIMat aims to be a world-class platform for global academic exchange and interdisciplinary integration, showcasing China’s leading research in materials science.

Professor Geim praised China’s advancements in two-dimensional materials and XJTU’s role in linking basic research with applications. He expressed hopes for AIMat to become a flagship journal and encouraged researchers to explore new scientific frontiers. President Zhang presented Geim with an honorary guest certificate.

The event also introduced AIMat’s editorial board, comprising 60 scholars from 28 institutions across 8 countries, including 10 academicians. Distinguished guests officially inaugurated the journal, and Executive Editor-in-Chief Professor Turab Lookman invited global contributions.

Presided over by XJTU Vice President Shan Zhiwei, the ceremony was organized with support from the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology and Higher Education Press, attracting nearly 1,000 live viewers online.
