Reader's meeting enhances university culture

On December 23, Xi’an Jiaotong University hosted the "My Writing, My Xi'an - Famous Writer Chen Yan Reader Meeting" at its Science Museum on the Xingqing Campus in Xi’an, Shaanxi province. Esteemed writer and playwright Chen Yan, also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairman of the Chinese Writers Association, engaged with faculty and students.

Lu Jianjun, secretary of the Party Committee, welcomed Chen Yan, highlighting that university culture is crucial to the institution's development and emphasizing the role of "cultural inheritance and innovation". He praised Chen Yan's contributions to Shaanxi's cultural scene, noting his work's deep roots in life and practice.

Lu expressed the university's commitment to collaborate with Chen Yan, aiming to advance university culture and contribute to national and regional cultural development. Chen Yan on the other hand commended Xi'an Jiaotong University's cultural heritage and its role in serving the nation and fostering innovation.

The event was chaired by Wang Huan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, with over 300 attendees, including Cheng Jin, a Party Committee member and director of the Propaganda and United Front Work Departments. Wang Huan welcomed Chen Yan and praised his work for its connection to real life and contemporary themes.

A book donation ceremony saw Chen Yan donating his works to the university library, with Cheng Jin accepting the donation and presenting a collection certificate.

In a discussion with Professor Zhang Yong, vice dean of the School of Humanities, Chen Yan explored themes from his new work, "The World's Wide Mansion," and emphasized the importance of grounding literary creation in real life. He encouraged students to maintain their ideals and aspirations as they move forward.
