The 9th International Forum on Materials Genetic Engineering took place from November 19 to 23 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, gathering nearly 260 experts from 17 countries. Participants presented research on material genetic engineering, AI-enhanced materials, and material intelligence R&D, alongside showcasing over 210 graduate student posters.

The forum was hosted by the National New Materials Big Data Innovation Alliance and China Society for Materials Research, and jointly organized by Northwestern Polytechnical University, Northwest Nonferrous Metals Research Institute, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, and Beijing Yunzhi Materials Big Data Research Institute. It attracted around 40 academicians and over 1,200 industry representatives globally.

The opening ceremony featured speeches from prominent academicians, including Zhang Liqun, Xie Jianxin, Wei Bingbo, and Li Yanrong. The forum highlighted significant achievements, including awards for outstanding contributions and young scientist recognitions.

Key events included the unveiling of a joint laboratory for material genetic engineering under the "Belt and Road" initiative. The National New Materials Big Data Center launched material database software and a machine learning platform, collaborating with Alibaba Cloud and others to release new models and datasets, enhancing the national material data resource system.

The "Tianhe Cultivation Plan for Material Calculation and Design Software" was also launched to support domestic software innovation. The main forum featured top experts like Wang Jiangping and Artem R. Oganov, who discussed cutting-edge technologies in material genetic engineering and AI+materials development.

Sub-forums focused on efficient material design, experimental technology, and big data applications. Concurrent events included a roundtable on AI-driven industry revolution and a conference on material data standardization.

Since 2017, the forum has attracted over 350 academicians and nearly 10,000 participants, promoting the integration of industry, academia, and research in new materials and advancing technological innovation in the materials sector.
