The 12th Foreign Language Culture and Arts Festival began on November 15 at Xidian University in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. Over 500 participants, including university leaders and representatives, gathered to celebrate the event, which highlighted the integration of languages such as Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Russian, and Turkmen.
Chen Huilin, executive dean of the School of Foreign Languages, encouraged students to enhance their language skills and cross-cultural literacy, urging them to embrace cultural integration and contribute to global dialogue.
The festival commenced with a new student admission ceremony. New student representative Shi Jiaxuan expressed pride in joining the university and encouraged peers to use language as a bridge for cultural exchange. The freshmen took an oath, symbolizing their commitment to truth, pragmatism, and global communication.
The festival featured diverse performances, including a musical by students from Xi'an International Studies University, which transported the audience to European theaters with elegant melodies. A band performance of "We Are the Champions" energized the crowd, while a Japanese recitation of "Big Fish and Begonia" depicted an enchanting Eastern fantasy world.
Other highlights included the drama "Happiness and Happy Ending," and the sketch "Destiny," exploring the mysteries of fate. The original drama "Quartet of Chinese and Western Literature" featured debates on ethics, faith, and modern challenges, illustrating the dialogue between Chinese and Western thought.
The festival also hosted the award ceremony for the third Good Learning Scholarship, recognizing outstanding teams and individuals. The highest honor, "Star of the Foreign Language School," was awarded to Wei Siqi, a translation major, who participated in the National English Speech Contest in Hangzhou.
The event concluded with an international "National Fashion Show," where students from various countries showcased traditional attire, celebrating cultural diversity and unity. For twelve years, the Foreign Language Culture Festival has been a platform for Xidian students to display linguistic talents and engage with global cultures.
