‘Classic Beijing, New Beijing’ International workshop concludes at CUC

On October 27, 2025, the "Classic Beijing, New Beijing" International Workshop on Animation and Digital Art concluded at the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing. This event, involving participants from China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand, was organized by CUC's School of Animation and Digital Arts and the International Student Affairs Center. It was supported by the China Scholarship Council's "Chinese Government Scholarship International Summer School Program" and the "Campus Asia Program."

Seventeen faculty members and students from Tokyo University of the Arts, Korea National University of Arts, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand), and Silpakorn University (Thailand) joined their CUC counterparts for a two-week cross-cultural exchange. The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of Chinese culture through art education and promote innovation in animation and digital art.

At the opening ceremony on October 13, Professor Cui Yunpeng, associate dean of the School of Animation and Digital Arts, encouraged participants to explore the blend of historical and modern elements in Beijing through digital art. Professor Jia Xiuqing highlighted the role of art education in connecting cultures and inspired students to discover Beijing's dual nature.

Participants visited key landmarks such as the Palace Museum, the Mutianyu Great Wall, and the 798 Art Zone to experience Beijing's cultural layers. Lectures by experts like lecturer Shi Ning and Professor Zhou Yuji provided insights into Beijing's historical and urban development.

Collaborating in groups, participants created works themed "Classic Beijing, New Beijing," including animations, digital magazines, and interactive games. The final exhibition, held on October 27, showcased these creations, celebrating cultural exchange and artistic innovation.

Reflecting on the experience, participants praised Beijing's blend of tradition and modernity. The workshop marked a significant step in CUC's efforts to promote educational internationalization and cultural exchange.
