University art course concludes at archaeological museum

Updated:2025-11-03

The final art education class of the semester at Northwestern Polytechnical University concluded at the Han Yangling Mausoleum Site Museum, located in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. Surrounded by a golden ginkgo forest, the museum hosted the closing ceremony for the innovative "Director Takes You to See Cultural Relics" course on November 2.

Deputy Director He Hong welcomed attendees, while the university's Art Education Center summarized the course's achievements. Wang Haipeng, the director of Academic Affairs, emphasized the course's role in talent cultivation. Esteemed guests, including Professors Du Wei and Song Xiujian, praised the course for its innovative approach to aesthetic education, highlighting its national significance.

Students shared insights gained from the course, and He Hong, along with Wang Zili from Xi'an Museum, received recognition as "Museum Course Art Education Mentors". All students were awarded certificates of completion.

The course integrates art education with museum resources, fostering a synergy between science, technology, and humanities education. It collaborates with seven major museums, including the Shaanxi History Museum, to create a new path for museum-based art education. This approach enriches students' learning experiences by offering spatial narratives and immersive environments.

The course has been met with enthusiasm, with high student demand. Liu Hui, the course leader, noted that museums provide the "on-site feeling" often missing in college education, enhancing students' aesthetic understanding. Zhang Ziyu, a sophomore, shared how cultural relics became vivid historical witnesses under the curator's guidance.

Looking ahead, Northwestern Polytechnical University plans to expand its "campus museum integration" model, developing 16 new courses over two years, including "Dialogue between Museums and Civilization". This initiative aims to build a comprehensive art education curriculum system, fostering dialogue, reflection, and creativity.

Participants concluded the event with a visit to the Han Yangling Mausoleum Site Museum, engaging in experiential activities that deepened their understanding of cultural relics and history.
