On October 25, Chang'an University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, hosted the naming ceremony for the "Zhang Bosheng Star" and the 9th "Zhang Bosheng Award" ceremony. Co-organized by Chang'an University, the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Xi'an Center of the China Geological Survey, the event honored Zhang Bosheng's contributions to geological science and aimed to inspire future geologists.

Fan Wen, vice president of Chang'an University, welcomed attendees before Fan Yizhong, deputy director of the Purple Mountain Observatory, announced the official naming of asteroid 498394 as "Zhang Bosheng Star", as approved by the International Astronomical Federation. Zhao Haibin, director of the Planetary Research Department, detailed the asteroid's discovery and naming process.

The ceremony was attended by experts, scholars, and hundreds of students and faculty from geological institutions nationwide, marking a significant moment for the geological community.

Zhang Bosheng (1903–1994), born in Xingyang, Henan province, was a structural geologist and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. A Stanford University alumnus, Zhang introduced influential theories on the "Loess Line," Yellow River channel development, and Qinling River system genesis, impacting Quaternary geology globally. After returning to China in 1930, he held professorships at several institutions and was elected to the CAS in 1980.

Speeches by Meng Xianlai, former director of the China Geological Survey; Zhang E, Zhang Bosheng's daughter; and others highlighted Zhang's academic spirit and the importance of continuing his legacy in modern times.

During the awards segment, Zhu Jiejun announced the winners of the 9th "Zhang Bosheng Award," which included categories like the College Student Award and Mineral Exploration Breakthrough Awards.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the "Zhang Bosheng Fund Donation Agreement," marking a new phase of collaboration to uphold Zhang's legacy and advance national geological strategies.
