The China-SCO Higher Education Cooperation Center was inaugurated on September 2 at Xi'an Jiaotong University's Innovation Port in Xi’an, Shaanxi province. A joint initiative by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Shaanxi Provincial Government, with support from the Chinese Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the center serves as a vital platform for advancing education, technology, and talent development. It aims to bolster the economic and social progress of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, by focusing on regional research, education governance, talent development, digital education, technology cooperation, and industry-education integration. The center seeks to offer "SCO wisdom" and "SCO solutions" to global higher education cooperation, fostering a more open and inclusive global education community. Wu Yan, vice minister of Education, highlighted the importance of educational cooperation for the SCO's development. He emphasized that the new centers for higher education and vocational education are vital for advancing educational collaboration, reflecting the shared vision of member states to drive reform and improve well-being.
Zhang Liqun, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, highlighted the university's leadership in establishing an international education cooperation platform to meet the development needs of SCO countries. The initiative focuses on talent training, innovation, exchanges, think tank development, and industry-education integration. Key efforts will include joint talent training, teacher development, research cooperation, and digital education promotion, contributing to a closer SCO community.
The ceremony also introduced initiatives like the "Construction Plan for China-SCO Higher Education Cooperation Center," SCO International Summer School Project, and the "SCO Countries Cultural Education Publishing Alliance" Initiative Project.
