The Forum on International Communication and Foreign Language Development kicked off at Xi’an Fanyi University (XFU), in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Office of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government.
Themed "Mutual Learning Among Civilizations & Translation and Communication," the event aims to foster talent and enhance international communication in alignment with China's cultural advancement strategy. Experts and scholars from 32 prestigious universities within and outside Shaanxi, along with notable media professionals, participated in the forum.
Key figures such as Gao Jinxiao from the Foreign Affairs Office of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, Xing Yutang from the Translators Association of China (TAC), and Ding Jing, chairman of XFU's board of directors, graced the opening ceremony with insightful speeches. Renowned domestic experts including Huang Youyi, Chen Mingming, Jiang Hongxin, and Yuan Xiaolu participated in engaging discussions on topics such as technology-driven translation pedagogy reform and cultural adaptation in international communication.
Ding Jing welcomed the delegates, highlighting the importance of international communication in the digital age and XFU's dedication to talent cultivation for global outreach. As a leading institution in foreign language education in Northwest China, XFU has hosted this forum for four consecutive years, contributing to the global promotion of Chinese culture. The event featured keynote speeches, roundtable meetings, and parallel sessions where scholars and editors delved into pressing issues like language services under the Belt and Road Initiative and the role of translation in cultural diplomacy.
Insights shared by experts like Huang Youyi on AI-enhanced cross-cultural communication strategies and Chen Mingming on metaphor translation in diplomatic discourse added depth to the discussions. The forum serves as a pivotal platform for nurturing talent in international communication and driving reforms in foreign language education.
