In 2025, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Demonstration Base for Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training celebrates its sixth anniversary, marking a significant milestone in promoting agricultural modernization, industrialization, and sustainable development across SCO countries. China's proposal in 2019 to establish an SCO agricultural technology exchange and training base in Shaanxi province aimed to bolster collaboration in modern agriculture within the region.
During the Fifth Conference of Agriculture Ministers of SCO member states in October 2020, a consensus was reached to create a similar base in Yangling, China. Since its inception, the base has responded to the agricultural needs of SCO nations by dispatching experts from the Yangling Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone, providing technical assistance and knowledge transfer.
The base has established joint laboratories, overseas agricultural science and technology parks, and tested superior crop varieties, along with efficient cultivation techniques, benefitting over 30 million acres in SCO countries. Addressing common challenges like drought and water scarcity, the base offers technical support through Northwest A&F University, focusing on key technologies for water-saving agriculture.
Through initiatives like the Pakistan Agricultural "Thousand Talents Program," the base has trained over 2,400 agricultural officials and technicians from SCO and developing countries. Additionally, high-level conferences and training programs have attracted foreign officials and experts, fostering agricultural modernization and enhancing food security in SCO nations.
The base's efforts extend to establishing the SCO National Agricultural University Alliance, collaborating with universities to train agricultural students and vocational education candidates from SCO countries, furthering the sustainable development of agriculture in the region.

On June 12, young people from SCO countries visit the base to gain a deeper understanding of its development and support for the agricultural development of SCO countries.
