The 2025 China University Student Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition (Shaanxi Division), hosted by the Education Department of Shaanxi Province and organized by Chang'an University, took place on April 26 at Chang'an University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, Northwest China.
Marked as the premier event in the realm of engineering education in Shaanxi province, the competition drew 803 teams and nearly 3,000 teachers and students from 48 universities within the province, setting new records in terms of scale, participation, and reach. This surge injected a significant impetus into nurturing fresh engineering talents and fostering closer ties between industry and academia in provincial universities.
During the opening ceremony, Pei Jianzhong, vice president of Chang'an University, emphasized the institution's commitment as a "Double First Class" university renowned for its engineering prowess. He highlighted their dedication to enhancing engineering education quality and cultivating exceptional innovative talents.
Pei pledged that the university would spare no effort in ensuring a competition that is "fair, safe, and efficient."
Zhang Xiaohui, deputy secretary-general of the Higher Education Engineering Training and Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education and vice president of Xi'an University of Technology, lauded the competition's 16-year journey since its inception in 2009. He hailed it as a flagship event in China's engineering education landscape and a trailblazer in forging new engineering disciplines.
Zhang encouraged participants to embrace innovation, showcase their unique approaches, and exhibit their expertise.
The competition featured three national contests focusing on new energy vehicles, "Intelligent+," and virtual simulations, alongside four special events in Shaanxi Province. It encompassed 11 diverse challenges, spanning from solar-powered vehicles to intelligent logistics handling, aiming to test students' knowledge across disciplines like new energy, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
This holistic approach aimed to spotlight the engineering practice and innovation acumen of Shaanxi Province's college students in the modern era, crafting a world-class engineering practice and innovation education initiative with distinct Chinese characteristics.
Endorsed by the Engineering Training and Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, this national college student science and technology innovation practice competition holds a prestigious position in the Ministry of Education's evaluation and competition roster, classified as an A-class subject competition.
