Updated:2025-03-31

A new stone carving museum has opened at Chang’an University in Xi’an, in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province.

To mark the occasion, an Exhibition of Stone Cultural Relics and Fuping Stone Carving Skills Inheritance is being held at the museum. The county of Fuping is renowned for its Stele carving techniques.

The museum is divided into two parts: a visiting exhibition area and a practical workshop, with a total of six permanent exhibition themes.

Pei Jianzhong, vice-president of Chang'an University, said that the construction of the Stone Carving Art Museum was part of efforts to promote aesthetic education for the new era.

The university intends to use the museum as an opportunity to integrate aesthetic education courses into professional education, promote in-depth dialogue between engineering technology and humanities, and cultivate "new engineering talents" with humanistic feelings, aesthetic literacy and cross-disciplinary integration abilities, Pei said.

Jia Dan, deputy county head of Fuping County, said the opening of the museum not only adds a cultural landmark to the university, but also provides an important platform for research, inheritance, and exhibition of Fuping stone carvings and stone carving skills. It is of great significance for promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture and enhancing cultural confidence, Jia added.

Guests and teachers had a first chance to view the museum during an opening ceremony on Saturday.
