A seminar on "Artificial Intelligence+Media" Innovation and Development Strategy was held on January 13 at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, Northwest China.
The event aimed to delve into how artificial intelligence can revolutionize various aspects of news including gathering, production, distribution, reception, and feedback, with the key objective of influencing public opinion more effectively.
Wang Huan, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee at Xi'an Jiaotong University and the seminar's host, highlighted the university's proactive stance in seizing new opportunities and advancing the establishment of an independent knowledge system for Chinese journalism and communication based on the "AI+" strategy.
Lu Jianjun highlighted the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the emergence of new technologies leading to fresh cultural forms, platforms, and models, along with novel tasks and challenges. Consequently, the establishment of the Intelligent Communication Research Institute in collaboration with People's Daily Online was deemed timely by Lu, marking the inception of the first enterprise-led research institute for the deep integration of industry and education following the initiation of the "Industry Education Integration and Collaborative Education" innovation project.
During the seminar, Xi'an Jiaotong University and People's Daily Online formalized their partnership with the signing of a cooperation agreement for the "People's Daily Online--Xi'an Jiaotong University Intelligent Communication Research Institute."
Lu Jianjun, secretary of the Party Committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University, outlined Xi'an Jiaotong University's commitment to furthering the "6352" industry education integration innovation project, advancing the "1121" model for deep integration of industry, academia, research, and spearheading the fusion of artificial intelligence and media development to contribute to a new paradigm of western development.
Wang Wenbin, dean of the School of Journalism and New Media at Xi'an Jiaotong University, detailed the university's progress in developing intelligent communication disciplines, including the establishment of an authoritative evaluation system in digital culture, film, and art, paving the way for the Cultural and Creative Industry Research Institute. This institute will address critical issues in cultural and creative industries, fostering interdisciplinary research teams and serving as a national think tank supporting the evolution of new cultural formats.
Additionally, a spatial media and intelligent computing laboratory was announced at the seminar, focusing on research and application exploration in space media fusion communication, with the aim of achieving notable breakthroughs in this field in China.
Looking ahead, the School of New Media at Xi'an Jiaotong University will leverage the resources of the Cultural and Creative Industry Research Institute, the Spatial Media and Intelligent Computing Laboratory, and the People's Daily Online--Xi'an Jiaotong University Intelligent Communication Research Institute to delve deeply into the theoretical underpinnings, defining characteristics, and developmental trajectories of new media productivity in the era of "artificial intelligence+." This initiative will drive the integrated growth of education, technology, and talent in the field.
