The Xi'an Jiao·Tong Connecting the World International Summer Session (XJTISS) course titled "A Glimpse of Chinese Culture through a Comparative Perspective" was held from August 1st to August 8 in the Xi’an Jiaotong University.
Co-organized by the Academic Affairs Office and the School of International Education, the online course was led by Professor Tian Mei and co-taught by Professors Yang Ruiying, Peng Fengling, associate professors Ge Dongmei, Carla Briffett Aktas, and Chen Dadi.
The course attracted over 1,500 international students from 13 countries, including Russia, Vietnam, and Pakistan.
Rooted in Xi'an Jiaotong University's core general education course "Chinese and Western Cultures: A Comparison," the summer course was meticulously designed to meet the learning needs of international students. It aimed to introduce the profound richness of Chinese culture by exploring topics such as Chinese philosophy, cultural values, education, language, visual arts, and poetry. Through a comparative methodology, the course highlighted the significance of intercultural exchanges throughout Chinese history, fostering a comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture among international students.
Now in its third consecutive year, the course exemplifies Xi'an Jiaotong University's dedication to delivering world-class education to international undergraduates. Moreover, it aligns with the university's commitment to fostering a global community with a shared future, inspiring young people to collaborate for global peace and prosperity.
The one week course not only provides a platform for academic enrichment but also promotes intercultural understanding, and reinforces the importance of global collaboration in today's interconnected world.
