Corporate Responsibility and High Quality Development Forum held in Xi’an

The 3rd China Corporate Responsibility and High-Quality Development Forum, a collaborative effort between Southern Weekend and the School of Management at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), organized by the New Era Enterprise High-Quality Development Research Center of NPU and Southern Weekly China Corporate Social Responsibility Research Center, was held on July 12 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

The 3rd China Forum on Corporate Responsibility and High-Quality Development

Under the theme "Technology Leading, Low Carbon for the Future," the forum brought together a diverse group of experts, scholars, institutional representatives, and corporate executives to delve into the pivotal role of technological innovation in achieving the "dual carbon" goal. Discussions also centered on the challenges and advancements in low-carbon technological innovation.

During the forum, the School of Management at Northwestern Polytechnical University and Southern Weekly unveiled several research reports, offering detailed insights into the progress of Chinese enterprises in their "dual carbon" endeavors.

Jia Ming, vice dean and professor at the School of Management at Northwestern Polytechnical University, and director of the Research Center for High Quality Development of Enterprises in the New Era, releases the "Report on Carbon Neutral Development of Enterprises (2020-2023)".

Jia Ming's report highlighted current challenges in the journey towards carbon neutrality for Chinese enterprises. These include the absence of established carbon neutrality management systems, a lack of clear frameworks for evaluating carbon-neutral development, and varying levels of commitment to carbon neutrality across enterprises. The report recommended actions such as enhancing carbon responsibility mechanisms, tailoring carbon reduction strategies to individual needs, utilizing carbon offsetting measures effectively, as well as improving carbon information disclosure frameworks, and implementing long-term incentive mechanisms to drive enterprise engagement in carbon neutrality efforts.

The forum holds a roundtable dialogue.

The forum also featured a roundtable dialogue where participants discussed the progress and obstacles related to China's "dual carbon" objectives. Some of the Key issues identified included the necessity of fostering consensus among enterprises on carbon reduction, addressing technological barriers in the widespread adoption of new energy solutions, and managing financial pressures in low-carbon technology innovation.

Experts engaged in the dialogue emphasized the importance of establishing robust support systems encompassing funding, talent, and an innovation-friendly business environment provided by local governments to advance low-carbon technological innovation. They also stressed the need to develop sustainable business models for the integration of new technologies, enhance social consensus on green development, and foster collaboration among various stakeholders to drive dynamic low-carbon innovation initiatives.
