Forum for international cooperation among universities held in Xi'an

The 2023 Silk Road University Alliance Forum was held on Oct 8 at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

The opening ceremony of the forum is held the morning of Oct 8 at Xi'an Jiaotong University.

More than 150 representatives of international organizations, members of the Silk Road University Alliance and notable scholars from home and abroad attended the forum with the theme, "Development and Innovation of World Higher Education in the Context of the New Technology Revolution."

The forum launched the Belt and Road industry education alliance initiative, the mechanism of the China-Central Asia Higher Education Cooperation Forum, and held a ceremony for 14 new universities to join the alliance.

The welcome ceremony is held for the alliance's new members.

The first China-Central Asia Higher Education Cooperation Forum will be held on Oct 14 at the National University of Kazakhstan, and adopts a rotating chairman system, which is currently held by China and Central Asia.

Since the establishment of the Silk Road University Alliance initiated by Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2015, it has formed 13 sub alliances in disciplines such as energy, chemical engineering, global health, law, tourism, and cultural heritage. The operating mechanism has been continuously improved, brand activities have been carried out in depth, connotation and functions have been enriched, and international influence has been continuously enhanced.

Lu Jianjun, secretary of the Party Committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University, keynotes the opening ceremony of the forum.  

According to Lu Jianjun, secretary of the Party Committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University, more than 160 universities from 38 countries and regions have joined the alliance, achieving fruitful results in talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation, cultural communication, policy research, medical services, and other aspects.

Rogalev Nikolai, president of the Moscow Institute of Power Engineering, Russia, said that his school is in cooperation with Harbin Institute of Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwest Institute of Technology and other universities in China in the areas of talent cultivation, scientific research. It will also establish Hainan Moscow Power University in Hainan, China to carry out undergraduate and graduate courses in education and related scientific research work.

"I look forward to the alliance promoting in-depth exchanges among universities from various countries and jointly improving the level of higher education worldwide," said Rogalev Nikolai.
