Xi'an Jiaotong University, based in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, Northwest China, presented awards to the most outstanding students of the 2019-2020 school term on Dec 9, in order to further encourage the young people to contribute more to the motherland.

Vice president of the school, Zheng Qinghua, introduces the students' commendations and awards for the 2019-2020 academic year.

According to the vice president, one student at the university was named the 'national college student of the year' for the first time; two students were awarded the national university student self-improvement star; and one student was selected for the national scholarship award-winning student representative list, making this year the best in the history of the school.  

Zheng said that the year 2020 has been a year of arduous struggle for the university and also a year for the university to catch up with and surpass. Between New Year's Eve and the Lantern Festival, 302 medical and nursing personnel were sent in batches from the First Affiliated Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital of the school to help Hubei province fight against the epidemic, demonstrating the heroic spirit and the responsibility of the university.

In February, "anti-epidemic" courses were launched online. The whole school, teachers and students, made a concerted effort and the epidemic situation did not affect the teaching of a single course.

In May, the teachers, students and staff returned to school to build an ideological and political course with firm confidence in the system and strong family feelings and patriotism.  

In September, the opening ceremony for 2020's arrivals was held as scheduled, and more than 14,000 freshmen from all over the country opened a new chapter in their lives.

And in November, Zheng said, the school won the honorary title of "National Civilized Campus".  

Wang Shuguo, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said at the meeting that in the face of great challenges and opportunities, the university should shoulder its historic mission, creating new fields and great achievements in the new era.

“This commendation and award meeting is not only a summary of the past's outstanding performance, but also for future achievements. Jiaotong University students should make great contributions to our motherland,” Wang said.
