Symposium on international cooperation in management education held in Xi'an

A symposium on international cooperation in management education was held both online and offline in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, on Sept 21, to further promote international cooperation and innovation in management education and collaboration between top schools and enterprises at home and abroad.

Presidents from eight well-known universities together discuss the possibility of building and sharing an international management education community at the meeting.  

Hosted by Xi’an Jiaotong University, the seminar attracted presidents from eight well-known universities in China, the United States, Canada, Italy, France, Serbia, Zambia and Thailand to attend the meeting either online or in person, to discuss the possibility of building a shared international management education community.  

He Changzhong, director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University, used "ABCD" - which stands for Aim high, Bottom-up, Communication and Dedication - in his welcome speech to summarize his experience in international school-running, and said that Xi'an Jiaotong University will continue to work hard to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and mutual learning with universities in the field of management education, strengthen the cooperation between China and foreign countries in running schools, speed up the cultivation of high-level international talents with a global vision, and provide Chinese wisdom for the development of the world economy and society.

Feng Gengzhong, dean of the School of Management, Xi'an Jiaotong University; Daniel Himarios, associate dean of the University of Texas, Arlington; Mike Maier, vice president of the Business School, University of Alberta, Canada; Giuliano Noci, vice president of Milan Polytechnic University’s China Affairs, Italy; Patrice Houdayer, vice president of SKEMA Business School in France; Bojan Lalic, dean of the Belt and Road Research Institute of Novi Sad University, Serbia; Kwai Sang Chin, deputy director of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, City University of Hong Kong; and Kavin Asavanant, director of the International Affairs Department of the School of Commerce, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, each gave an online introduction to the professional characteristics, disciplinary advantages and internationalization strategy of their institutes, and shared their successful cooperation experiences through jointly organizing Sino-foreign cooperative education projects in management disciplines, building joint research centers and overseas joint education.

The delegates agreed that relying on the international cooperation projects of the two sides, in-depth cooperation can be carried out in aspects including the docking of advantageous majors, the joint training of students, the scientific research cooperation of teachers and students, exchanges and visits between teachers and students, the customization of characteristic courses, and international docking of production, learning and research, so as to further explore a replicable and popularized model of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools.

The internationalization strategy of the School of Management of Xi'an Jiaotong University has experienced excellent development through three stages, from 1.0 to 3.0.

From "bringing in and sending out" of internationalization 1.0, to "benchmarking international, catching up and surpassing" of internationalization 2.0, and now "management education going out of the country and stepping into the world" of internationalization 3.0, the School of Management of Xi'an Jiaotong University has opened up overseas joint education, promoted deep cooperation between famous enterprises and universities, customized training of high-level management talents, explored new management education models and established a new international brand of management education.
