Technological innovation promoted in Xi’an

An innovation promotion entitled IHARBOR Innovation Month 2020 officially kicked off on Saturday in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China to further speed up technological innovation in Western China.  

During the month-long activity more than 300 scientific research platforms of 29 research institutes will focus on showing scientific and technological achievements, introduce scientific research teams and their research progress to the world, expand and deepen cooperation with all sectors of society, and open a new mode of global cooperation.

The promotion was jointly organized by Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xixian New Area and Fengxi New Town of Xixian New Area with the guidance and support of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, the provincial government, the Xi'an Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government.

More than 150 activities will be held by 29 research institutes that have settled in the Western China Science and Technology Innovation harbor (IHARBOR), including high-end forums, academic lectures, scientific and technological drills, cooperation negotiations, signings and unveilings, and a summit on cooperation between university and local government and enterprises to involve personnel training, scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation, school-local cooperation and international exchange.

Zhang Maizeng, secretary of the Party Committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said that the IHARBOR, built by the Ministry of Education and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, is an important platform and carrier for implementing the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the province’s innovation driven development strategy and western development strategy.

“At present, 29 research institutes, eight large-scale equipment sharing platforms and more than 300 scientific research institutions and think tanks have settled in the innovation harbor, bringing together more than 30,000 scientific research talents including dozens of academicians,” Zhang said.

Wang Shuguo, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said at the activity launching ceremony that at present the important field of international competition is scientific and technological innovation, and its strength is an important support for a country's economic and social development.

The school head said that the IHARBOR deeply integrates universities with society, promotes the integrated development of industry and the university in all forms of research and in personnel training, promotes the progress of science and technology in China, and contributes the strength and wisdom of Jiaotong University to the construction of a community of common destiny for all mankind.

Zhao Yide, deputy secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and governor of the province, congratulated organizers on the innovation promotion activities, and said that as a major province of science and education, Shaanxi will work with all parties to promote the opening and sharing of innovation resources, increase investment in basic research and applied basic research, implement major scientific and technological projects, and strive to make significant original achievements in key technologies.
